Where does your organisation sit?

L1
Unaware

AI is being used in the organisation — in tools, workflows, or experiments — but there is no formal awareness of governance needs. No policies exist. No one owns the AI agenda. Risk is unacknowledged and unmanaged.

L2
Aware

Leadership recognises that AI governance matters. Initial conversations are happening. Some ad hoc practices have emerged — but they are informal, inconsistent, and not organisation-wide. There is intent but no structure.

Structured

The organisation has defined AI governance policies, assigned accountability, and established basic oversight mechanisms. Practices are documented and applied — though not yet consistently monitored or enforced across all teams.

Governed

AI governance is active, monitored, and enforced. Risk is managed proactively. Leadership has visibility into AI performance and compliance. Governance practices are embedded in operations — not just on paper.
